Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., today announced the appointment of Allan H. Kittleman as Senator for Legislative District 9, representing Carroll and Howard Counties. Allan Kittleman replaces the late Robert H. Kittleman, his father. He will serve the remainder of a four-year term beginning January 8, 2003. “I am honored to appoint Allan Kittleman, as I am confident he will continue the strong record of leadership established by his father,” said Governor Ehrlich. “As an experienced public servant, Allan will continue to deliver the high level of representation the citizens of Howard and Carroll Counties expect and deserve.” Kittleman is currently a Councilman representing western and southern Howard County and portions of Ellicott City. He is a former partner in the law firm of Herwig & Humphreys, LLP, which concentrates in representing employers in workers’ compensation matters. Prior to serving on the Howard County Council, Kittleman was a member of the Howard County Republican Central Committee and the Howard County Republican Club. Kittleman, a Howard County native, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law. Kittleman resides in West Friendship with his wife, Robin and four children. In the event of a vacancy between elections in the office of Senator, a successor is chosen by the Central Committee for the party and district with which the incumbent had been affiliated. The Committee has 30 days from the effective date of the vacancy to make a nomination, and the Governor is directed by law to make the appointment within 15 days of receipt of the nomination.
